Sierra Digital Hosts Free Workshop
on SAP BW Modernization

July 25th, 2024 | 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm CST

Across our 20-year relationship with SAP, Sierra Digital has accumulated world-leading expertise in both new and legacy SAP systems. Our team is intimately familiar with aging SAP products, like SAP Business Warehouse (BW), but we’re also at the forefront of new technologies.

As a leader in cloud technologies, Sierra has built an expansive library of BTP apps, many of which are already embedded with AI tools. Our CEO, Mr. Senthil Kumar, has advised SAP as a member of the BTP Advisory Council. And – for our proprietary migration accelerator – we've been officially recognized by SAP as a preferred partner for SAP BW --> Datasphere migration.

Sierra has cultivated a deep reservoir of insight into SAP systems, and we invest this knowledge back into our professional community through regular (free) Bootcamps, Webinars, Workshops, and other training sessions. These workshops – often co-led by partners like SAP – connect likeminded professionals, circulate updates to SAP’s product strategy, and broadcast new opportunities to simplify and enhance SAP technologies.

Sierra will host the next installment of our workshop series with SAP. This month, we’re talking about SAP BW Modernization. To join Sierra and to learn more about free tools that simplify and accelerate SAP BW Modernization, click here.

The BW Journey

90% of the world still runs on-premise - SAP Business Warehouse, SAP's favored data-warehousing product, houses an unimaginable quantity of vital business data. But SAP BW has already entered its end-of-life stages, and SAP will officially terminate maintenance for SAP BW in 2027.

The clock is ticking: SAP users, en masse, have to begin migrating their systems to the cloud in a few months. But cloud migration isn’t always speedy. Most often, this intensive transformation demands an 18-month implementation window. And before migration can start, business have to budget, plan, survey their existing systems, and ask questions about their goals for cloud migration. SAP Business Warehouse is a robust system containing a large number of modeling, ETL, and reporting elements. Assessing the current state of the system is a cumbersome process to undertake manually. Migration, with all the planning and preparation it requires, is a long process, but users are running out of time to migrate their SAP BW systems to the cloud.

Migration Made Easy

But Sierra Digital makes migration easy with the InFocus Data Readiness Assessment, a migration accelerator officially sponsored by SAP. Using either the ABAP Adaptor or HANA Adaptor, which are well-established methods for connecting to SAP Systems, Sierra establishes a remote connection to your SAP BW system. The InFocus Data Assessment then scans the metadata of your SAP BW System, ensuring that there is no disruption to live business operations. Sierra does not access or work with live Production Data, ensuring that there is no disruption to live business operations.

The Assessment tool generates essential components crucial for making informed decisions about the migration, including identifying what data needs to be migrated, how it should be transformed, and how it can be visualized. The analysis provides insights about the past and current use of BW Objects. Users benefit from an ability to understand objects that are in high use versus objects that are dormant or unused. Decision-makers therefore gain insight on BW object management, enhancement prioritization, and overall data strategy alignment. The assessment examines data volume, data model complexity, calculation logic, and dependencies in order to guide decision-making for object maintenance, optimization efforts, and resource allocation for future development and support. With the InFocus Data Assessment, users receive object inventories, overviews of as-is and to-be architectures, cost and time estimators, and more.

All data and component detail generated during the Assessment is seamlessly integrated with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC). Integration allows for the data to be presented in an easy-to-read format with insightful visuals and natural language queries powered by SAC Just Ask.

Why Datasphere?

Migrating from SAP BW to SAP Datasphere in the cloud offers substantial benefits to enterprises. By leveraging real-time analytics through SAP Analytics Cloud, companies can make quicker, more informed decisions. SAP Analytics Cloud Integrations provide business users with actionable insights through dynamic visualizations. Modernizing an outdated data and analytics foundation enables organizations to drive innovation, reduce costs, and maintain a competitive edge. With Sierra's expert guidance, businesses can fully exploit the insights within their data, advancing towards becoming intelligent enterprises.

And Datasphere provides the semantic-rich, contextualized data fabric that your organization needs to take full advantage of the AI revolution. Data needs context for authoritative decision making. GenAI can be the next revolution in productivity, but it requires contextualized, high-quality data – with centralized data governance and simplified cloud landscapes. Datasphere allows you to take full advantage of both SAP and non-SAP data – stored in different applications across the enterprise – to increase productivity, expand insight, and drive value.

And Datasphere effortlessly scales to manage increasing data volumes and complexity, providing organizations with the flexibility needed to grow and seize new opportunities. By unifying disparate systems into a single source of truth, businesses reduce data redundancy and enhance consistency.
